Our Story
In the Jubilee year, 2000, in the month of May, Very Rev. Fr George Nze Muoba of Onitsha Archdiocese was invited to preach retreat in a certain parish. He went to the monastery in Ozubulu for preparation with some lay faithful. They celebrated mass and offered other prayers, and towards the end of the prayers before Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist, they observed a time of quiet time. It was during this silent time that the Holy Spirit requested from Very Rev Fr George Nze Muoba to acquire a land where people can have an encounter with Him. He will teach people about the friendship with the Holy Spirit. Fr George Nze Muoba acquired a land for this assignment in Igbariam in Anambra State. Providentially, the land acquired was the land where early missionaries anchored their boat and began the Evangelization of the land. It is close to St Anthony Catholic Church, where the first indigenous priests were educated, trained, and formed.
The pilgrimage center of the Holy Spirit ( HOLY SPIRIT TEMPLE) is a very big land situated beside St Anthony Catholic Church Igbariam. The priests, religious and lay faithful, have tirednessly been developing the place to be very conducive for worship and encounter with the Holy Spirit. The Temple of the Holy Spirit has the following structures: the station of the cross, the grotto of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, the Cell of the Holy Spirit, the pavilion, the hostel ,the toilets, and the following structures under construction - dinning halls, station of the Holy Spirit, mountain of impossibility, empty tomb, the water project, and the chapel of the Holy Spirit.
The temple of the Holy Spirit was blessed by His Grace Most Rev Dr, Valerian M. Okeke on the 3rd January 2022 and with Most Rev Dr Dennis Isiuzoh present together with the priests, religious and christ faithful. The place was officially opened as a place of worship and encounter with the Holy Spirit. The diocese of Aguleri was created out of the old Onitsha Archdiocese, and thus Igbariam juridically belongs to the Aguleri now. The work of the Holy Spirit continues to grow. On the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the revelation of the friendship with the Holy Spirit, the Bishop of Aguleri, Most Rev Dr Dennis Isiuzoh declared that the diocese is adopting the Holy Spirit Temple as the property of the Diocese of Aguleri and henceforth the diocese will be interested in the affairs of the Holy Spirit Temple. He said that the mission must must not die with Rev Fr George Nze Muoba, but it will be improved more. The Holy Spirit is inviting everyone to join in the friendship with him. This is the age of changing the narrative of seeing the Holy Spirit as a force, but the person friend is in need of a relationship .
Very Rev. Fr. George Nze Muoba has taught many priests, religious and lay faithful about this friendship with the Holy Spirit. Many have benefited from this relationship, thus leading to the formation of friendship with the Holy Spirit in different parts of the world. We are not a pious society in the church in the strict sense of it, but as Christ faithful, we meet often on monthly basis to pray and learn more from the Holy Spirit Our Greatest Friend. We have sectors in Abuja, Lagos, Asaba- Onitsha, Aba,Owerri and Port Harcourt and Diaspora
